Why are some women against public displays of affection (pda's) ? I thought all women like attention.?

At home we are very intimate, but when we go out to the mall, grocery store, walk in the park, wherever she hates holding hands, no kissing, maybe a brief hug but no more than that. We've been together a long time and this has been the same since we met. What is up with this oddity?
