Child Support outside USA?

If you were divorced here in the States and were ordered to pay child support through the court then you would be paying through the court which is the way it is supposed to be set up. Since you had an "informal agreement" with your ex wife the court is not going to back you up now that you want the money to go through your family. You have NOTHING with the courts here so they're not going to care whether your son gets supported or not. It doesn't matter to anyone whether your son is supported because you have no court order. You can do whatever you want and if it upsets your ex you're just going to have to deal with it because that is what you chose to do from the beginning.
