Republican president during 1920's-1930's.. often criticized for how he handled the Great Depression, or his lack there of. Believed that the economy would pull itself out and did not need the help from govn't. Although the entire nation felt effects, mid west farmers especially felt the heat, and as ppl lost their homes and congregated to the outskirts of town together, they were soon termed "Hoover-villes".
