I like to switch over my career from Manufacturing to Design?

Hai, I am a Mechanical Engineering Graduate presently working as an Executive in Manufacturing field. I planned to switch over my career from Manufacturing to Design. I always have the pion in Machine designing like Pro-e, Catia etc... Presently I got stucked in a field where there is no gain in Engineering knowledge i.e like an accountant job. I joined there due to high pay and considering my family situation. But if I switch over now means I should start from scratch i.e as a fresher. Already I am 27 years old. Also tell me the scope of CAD, CAE softwares for a fresher. I have 1+ years of experience in Manufacturing. Please advice me for my career shift
